Safety

The resistor

Every grounding cord contains an inline 100 kilohm resistor. It sits between you and the outlet and limits current in the event of a wiring fault. Do not use any grounding product that does not have one.

Use a grounded outlet

The cord connects to the earth pin of a standard outlet. An outlet that is not genuinely earthed does nothing. Plug the cord into an outlet with a working ground. If you're unsure about an outlet, try another one, or ask a licensed electrician to check and correct its ground.

Who should talk to a clinician first

  • Anyone with an implanted device such as a pacemaker or defibrillator
  • Anyone taking medication where timing or dosage is closely managed, including blood thinners and thyroid medication
  • Anyone who is pregnant

This is not because we know of a specific risk. It is because nobody has studied these groups, and we would rather say that than imply safety we cannot demonstrate.

During a thunderstorm

Unplug the cord, as you would any device connected to household wiring.
